Anita Merriman brings us some bad news:
Stefan Merriman highsided his bike on a very fast MotoX test in the 2nd stage of the Italian round of the World Enduro Championship.
His handlebars flicked back and hit him in the abdomen. This has resulted in the removal of his spleen. The Doctors have done this with a type of microscopic surgery and he will (they say) be able to ride again in 14 days!!!! We will see.
In the meantime they are receiving enormous support from the Yamaha UFO team during this difficult time.With Krista just very young and needing feeding they have gone out of their way to do whatever they can to make things easier for Stefan and Lexy. Lexy has assured us that Stef is OK, just in a lot of pain and being unable to speak in Italian at the moment - so he is not able to convey much to the Nursing staff.
Just not Stefan's year this year as he now will not be able to win the Championship for 2005. It was a shame as this Italian Enduro was his dream come true. The weather was great, conditions fantastic, great organisation and the special tests superb!! As we would say 'you can't win em all'.
