KAWASAKI TEAM GREEN - Press Release:

Kawasaki The Favourite in Australasia:

Expect to see a New Zealander with a Kawasaki on the top step of the podium in Australia this season. It probably would not surprise anyone -- the Australians have already had a dose of Aucklander Katherine Prumm and they didn't like it one bit.

The 16-year-old Prumm showed up at the final round of the Australian women's motocross championships last season and seriously dominated, humbling the best in the business in her trans-Tasman debut.

This season the Kawasaki rider returns, now not as an unknown but as the outright favourite. She expects too, to be an even firmer prospect for the title after undergoing a tough build-up at the New Zealand Junior Motocross Championships near New Plymouth in April, her final outing as a junior. “It went pretty well in the end,” she said, despite the fact her campaign took a while to warm up.

It wasn't until the second day of the three-day Taranaki meeting that she started to come right and has her fingers crossed that she's now used up her share of bad luck for the season. After her initial gremlins, luck finally smiled on her and Prumm ran consistently among the top 15. “I made up a heap of points after that,” she laughed.

When she gets to Australia she hopes to dispense with her usual bike number, an unflatteringly high 649, and slap on a big letter K to the number boards. “International visitors get letters, I think. I don't know what number or letter I might get in the end.”

She explained where the No.649 came from, “It's a combination of when I finished sixth in the junior 125cc class, 9th in the 85cc class and the No.4 is the ranking of my boyfriend, Jesse Wiki.”

The first round of the Australian women's Motocross Championships are being held in conjunction with the Thumpernats series.

Fellow Kiwi Mary Perkins, Hastings, is another favoured to dominate across the Tasman this season, possibly making it a New Zealand 1-2 - similar to the way the Kiwi men are dominating.
