DK Takes the Open Class Title:

Subway Yamaha rider Darryll King won the Open class and also the Champion of Champions race at the New Zealand Four stroke championships south of Hamilton over the Easter weekend.

King headed the Open class field ahead of brother Shayne (Team Castrol Honda) and won all five races after close battles in two of the races.

In the final Champion of champion race DK started in third behind Honda riders Peter Broxholme and Shayne King. Suzuki rider Luke Burkhart stayed with the trio for the first two laps but could not handle the pace of the front three riders. DK passed the Honda riders and pulled away to win by four seconds.

In the 450 cc class Shayne won ahead of Darryll in second Peter Broxholme in third and Luke Burkhart in fourth. DK missed the first two months of this year riding after breaking the Navicular bone in his left foot. He was just hoping to make the startline at round one of the Australian Mr Motocross series last weekend. He came away with two third place finishes and with two more weeks until round two north of Melbourne he is surely on track to be at full fitness.

"I am still improving every time I get out on my bike. Finally I can put my left foot on the ground without pain while riding. It has been slow progress however I feel that I am starting to put it all together again and expect to challenge for wins consistently at the next Mr Motocross round. It was good riding two bikes again, both machines ran superbly all weekend long" King said.

Veteran Motocross Champion Tony Cooksley rode the new Yamaha YZ450F to a clean sweep in all the Veteran class races. "The track was amazing and I totally enjoyed the weekend. Riding the YZ450F was more fun than I could have imagined" Tony said.

Subway Yamaha rider Nigel Smith finished in 7th position in the 250cc four stroke class.
