On a day when Townley expected to regain his points deficit from the first Belgian championship round and end his spell of bad luck, the Kiwi world champ had to see his championship hopes blown away by technical gremlins. Townley failed to finish a race and the twenty-year-old left the Neeroeteren circuit extremely disappointed yet optimistic about his speed.
“I’m happy with my speed and I feel good on the bike,” said the factory KTM rider. “It's just unfortunate that we have had all this bad luck at once. One consolation is that we have had enough for the entire year - so it’s all done now.”
The first round of the MX1 world championship kicks off in Zolder, Belgium next weekend where Townley will be looking to ride consistently and show that he most certainly has the speed and determination to be a championship contender.
