POWER RACING ON A HIGH:

With the Grand National Cross Country Championship Series finishing on a high with 2nd Outright for Christopher and 3rd Outright for Karl, now the Enduro and X Country Season is being contested vigorously. After a lack-lustre weekend at the Auckland Moto X Champs in Harrisville where both Chris and Karl had shocking starts and average rides, the team headed for Tokoroa where a new style X Country event was having its first staging. We take up the story:

First in Class – Third Outright!
Named the "Tokoroa Mighty 4 Hour", the inaugural running of this event combined features of the local area. They included tight Forestry, open Farmland, flat out Tarmac Airstrip drag, the Moto X track and the Super X Track. This was supposed to provide a challenge to all the off-road codes to see who had the ability to conquer all the different terrains.

Chris and Karl chose the “Mighty” Honda CRF450R in keeping with the name of the event so it was duly prepared with the sponsors equipment from the GPR Steering damper through the Castrol products, Regina Chain, Chiaravalli Sprockets, Pro Circuit pipe, Tag Bars and Michelin tyres. Obviously the No Fear clothing and Alpine Star boots finished off the package giving them an advantage right from the start.

The start line was a Le Mans affair so a cautious start saw Christopher away mid-pack on the heels of Sean Clarke. By the end of the first lap, Sean and Chris had worked their way up to 3rd and 4th respectively. Karl rode the second shift and moved into third still behind Clarke/Croad but first in the open 4 Stroke class. The race then settled into a procession with the first hour placings staying the same through to the finish. Obviously the CRF450 Honda was ultra fast down the Air Strip tarmac but suffered a little in the ultra tight one line forest section meaning passing was very difficult.
Ultimately, the results spoke for themselves so Chris & Karl finished 1st in Class and 3rd Overall. More success and recognition for our sponsors.

Karl Wins Central Series Enduro!
Chris sustained a shoulder injury at Tokoroa so it was Karl alone who headed for Makara (Wellington) overnight for the second round of the Central Enduro Series that takes in the mid to lower North Island. Makara is traditionally steep and difficult however the terrain was modified a little for this year as rain had been predicted.

Karl started well with solid Terrain Test results and in fact proved himself the fastest in the morning. A hiccup saw many riders getting slightly lost - however it all sorted itself out and the event ran well with Karl’s new '05 Honda CR250R rising to the occasion in his first outing on it. Karl won his Class (Enduro 2) convincingly and as well took his first outright win in Enduro to be the Overall Winner for the Makara Enduro. A great feat and well worth the support from all our sponsors already mentioned above. Karl has additional support from his employer Boyd Honda of Hamilton.

More enduro events are on the way with Riverhead and Woodhill being on the agenda. Some X Country events are also planned along with Coaching and local Moto X.
