Josh Coppins Injured at Hawkstone Park:

The CAS Honda rider dislocated his shoulder after an unfortunate crash in the first moto of the Hawkstone Park international in England. Coppins set the second fastest qualifying time in timed practice and was just pipped off pole position by his Finnish team-mate Jussi Vehvilianen.

Coppins had a reasonable start and moved into third position in the opening stages of the race. He had his sights set on Belgians, Everts and Smets who were only two seconds in front when the accident occurred. “I changed my line on the take off of a table top – the line looked good but it was a bit soft and the bike bottomed out, throwing my feet off the pegs. I almost saved it but the bike slipped away and high-sided me and I dislocated my shoulder. It isn’t painful at all and the doc at the hospital managed to put it back in without any problems. We had X-rays taken and all looks good but I will be seeing my specialist in Belgium tomorrow for an MRI scan and second opinion.”

Coppins flies back to Belgium tonight and the extent of the injury and recovery time will only be known once he has consulted his specialist, Dr. Toon Claes.
