Whakatane’s Tony Rees is set to return to the highly competitive Australian road race scene on his Yamaha R1, having entered the Australian Superbike Championship round that is to be run in conjunction with the World Superbike round on April 1-3 at Phillip Island.
The ex New Zealand Superbike Champion is no stranger to racing in Australia having campaigned several seasons for the Sydney based "Bikebiz" Race Team.
The thirty-seven year old motorcycle dealer had eighteen months off from road racing, but after demonstrating the new RI at the ’05 Paeroa "YAMAHA Battle of the Streets" event and at Manfield last weekend he decided that there was some unfinished business to be done.
"I have really enjoyed my road racing this season and having another go in Australia will be great, "said Rees from his Whakatane base this week. "It would be fantastic to do all the rounds of the Australian Champs and we are trying to put a deal together to do just that," added Rees
