Rees Leads Superbike after Round Three:

At the end of a controversial weekend Whakatane’s Tony Rees (Yamaha) leads the Suzuki NZ Superbike Championship after round three of the Motorcycle Trader and News Road Race Championships this weekend Feb 26/27 at Manfeild Autocourse. Hamilton’s Andrew Stroud (Suzuki) was excluded from the results from race one on Saturday after passing under a yellow flag. With two seconds behind Stroud on Sunday, Rees now has a twelve points lead over Auckland’s Ray Clee (Suzuki) going into the final round next weekend at Pukekohe.

Stroud dominated the SsangYong 600 Sports Production class although young Taranaki rider Hayden Fitzgerald took the win in Saturday’s race one.

With Championship leader New Plymouth’s Terry Fitzgerald withdrawing due to ill health, the Formula Three races were dominated by Foxton’s Jason Easton on his little Tigcraft Yamaha 465.

The 125cc Grand Prix class saw the battle of the young guns with Wellington’s Jay Lawrence and young Englishman Midge Smart fighting for the honours, with Smart coming out on top.

Ex Champions Andy Scrivener and Chris Meads dominated the sidecars on their Sowerby 1300.
