Jared Love Wins Heartfelt Robert Holden Memorial:

Jared Love took to the streets at Paeroa on Sunday in the final round of the Battle of the Streets, which included the prestigious Robert Holden Memorial. Just as he said he would, Love convincingly won the Robert Holden Memorial race - and the series to go with it.
A far cry from when he was loaded into the rescue helicopter at the same circuit in 2000, with a 15% chance of surviving. Since Wanganui on Boxing Day, Love’s Honda CBR1000RR had received some welcome go-fast parts to put him on a more even par with his fellow competitors. It worked too as this year the riders were topping 260kmh along the front straight, before braking heavily into turn one, at Fathers Tavern.

In the Robert Holden Memorial race Love got the hole shot into Fathers Tavern, but had a large pack of highly skilled motorcycle racers riding noisy 180hp bikes directly behind. It didn’t faze Love as he increased his lead while a slow starting Andrew Stroud (Suzuki GSX-R1000) made his way through the field. Stroud closed the gap slightly but couldn’t make an impression on the Honda rider ahead and settled for second. Towards the end of the ten lap race Tony Rees (Yamaha R1) slipped past Brian Bernard (Suzuki GSX-R1000) for third.

Love said, “I got a good start, my clutch is working perfect, and my motor is so fast. I felt good and with a clear track I thought this is my opportunity, so I just put my head down and ran as fast as I could.” Hard charging and consistent riding saw Love with podium finishes in both Formula Paeroa races on the CBR1000RR, both won by Stroud.
