Vale Gaston:

The three-time 125cc World Motocross Champion Gaston Rahier passed away yesterday after a long illness at age 58.

Those 'older' Silver-Bullet readers will well remember the diminutive Suzuki rider with the big heart. Gaston Rahier who rode for the Suzuki Factory Team, won the inaugral 125cc World Motocross championship in 1975 at age 28 and went on to claim that title the following two years. He was runner-up to his teamate Akira Watanabe in 1978. Rahier ranks as one of the Belgian MotoCross greats that include Roger DeCoster, Sylvain and Eric Geboers, Harry and Stefan Everts, Georges Jobe and Joel Smets.

Rahier although of relatively short stature transferred his attention to desert racing after his retirement from MotoCross, again Suzuki mounted he won the Paris - Dakar in 1984 and 1985.
