2005 Suzuki National Enduro Series:
Round One - Oparau:

John & Fiona Scott open up their farm for this event with many people camping over on the Friday night. It is stunningly beautiful hill country with large areas of bush, picturesque river crossings, and miles of great tracks.
This event always has good entries and this year was no exception, with 134 riders turning up for an excellent ride (58 Experts and 76 Intermediates). The ground was fairly hard although some much needed rain the day before had softened it slightly.

The Experts had some 'A' loops built into some of the sections which meant that they travelled about 30 km more than the Intermediates by the end of the day. The Intermediates had a very respectable 120 km to cover.

There were 5 terrain tests planned for the day but the fourth was discarded after a slight mixup. The person who was supposed to be timing the finish was standing at the start when the first bikes went off. All of a sudden they realised what was happening and made a valiant sprint for the finish but, despite bounding through the stream in hot pursuit, there was no way they were going to catch Sean Clarke, the first rider off... Oops.

Sean Clarke (Suzuki RM250) was on fire proving that good Enduro riders are like a good wine - they keep on improving with age...... Sean won every terrain test and finished the day 43 seconds ahead of Mark Pollard (Honda CRF250).
Rob Howe (KTM 450), 16 seconds back, just pipped Steven Bird (Yamaha WRF250) for third by 4 seconds.

Wayne Neilson (Honda CRF450) and Jason Davis (KTM 200) were easily the best of the Intermediates with Wayne finishing 3 seconds ahead of Jason.
