TAYLOR WINS FINAL ROUND OF THE NZ SUPERCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP:

Yamaha's Cameron Taylor threatened to steal the show at the third and final round of the New Zealand Supercross Championships in Tokoroa on Saturday night. The Australian 125cc supercross champion romped to three convincing wins in the 125cc class to firmly stamp his authority on the competition.

Unfortunately, because it was Taylor’s only appearance in New Zealand this summer, he had no chance of climbing to the top of the overall standings. Even so, his three wins on Saturday night were good enough to place him 11th outright.

Kiwi international Josh Coppins had won the opening two rounds in this division but, like Taylor, his campaign was incomplete as he flew back to his European base during the intervening week.

The 125cc title was instead won by Masterton’s Luke Burkhart who showed that consistency -- and turning up for every race -- counts.

The 250cc class was wrapped up by Kiwi international Daryl Hurley, with Peter Broxholme second and Yamaha’s Damien King third. Dual-class ironman King also managed fifth overall in the 125cc class.

Yamaha’s Mason Phillips was unable to continue his challenge for 250cc class honours after he suffered a practice session crash during the week building up to the event. “I dislocated my shoulder,” said the 19-year-old Phillips. “I was so gutted it wasn’t funny. “I don’t know how long I will take to recover. I’m having an operation to have the injury repaired,” he said. “It still hurts like hell.”
