Josh Rides at Motueka:

The first two rounds of the three round NZ National SuperCross championship will be run at the Motueka track (the “Rat Track”) on Saturday and Sunday – the third and final round will be a week later at Tokoroa.
Josh Coppins, ranked third in the world in the MX1 class will race on his home track before leaving for Europe to begin his 2005 campaign. This will be the public’s last chance to see the British Champion and the world number three before he departs for Europe.

Coppins won both classes at the meeting last year before he left for his successful 2004 race year. Race organiser, Sandy Bandy, of the Nelson Motorcycle Club said, “Josh is extremely loyal to the club and his hometown – we can always rely on him to support us”

With two back to back rounds in the South Island rider numbers are up. Unfortunately the current champion in both classes, Darryll King (Yamaha - Hamilton) will not be there because of injury. The King family will be represented by Damien (Yamaha - Cambridge).
Strong bids will come from supercross specialist Mason Phillips (Yamaha – Te Puke) a former title winner, Luke Burkhart (Suzuki – Masterton) and Scott Columb (Suzuki – Queenstown) who finished third in the national 125 motocross championship.
Coppins will race in both classes (125 and 250) in this weekend’s double header. There will be six races in each class.

There are full fields for all junior classes; Supercross gives the youngsters the chance to race at the same meeting as the senior stars.

The dates and venues are:
Round One; 8 January 2005 – Motueka
Round Two; 9 January 2005 – Motueka
Round Three; 15 January 2005 – Tokoroa (More:)
