MXLarge.Com took a look at the Australian MotoCross scene and a sideways look at the New Zealand scene.
The story quoted Shayne King, World 500cc GP champion in 1996, as saying this about Europe:
"It was tough, Daryl (Runner up in World 500cc GP 1997/98) and I never gave up on our dream, we did it tough in Europe in those early years. If you're not willing to struggle, then you're not going to make it in Europe or America.
Look at Chad and Ben - those two guys stayed when the going was tough, just like Josh Coppins, these guys stayed in there and fought for everything they had. Winning a World championship is not easy, and you have to put the hard yards in and I’m not sure the younger Aussies want to do that."
