Rees Frustrated By Weather:

Whakatane Yamaha motorcycle dealer, Tony Rees had a frustrating weekend at round two of the Motorcycle Trader & News motorcycle championships held at Teretonga Raceway outside Invercargill, in varying weather conditions. The weather went from driving rain to clear skies, with the track conditions going from wet with puddles to completely dry and everything in between. The former Superbike Champion, along with the rest of the field, battled the variable conditions, changing tyres from wets to slicks and back again.

In the first two Superbike races, which were run in the dry, Rees battled with reigning Superbike champion Hamilton’s Andrew Stroud on his Suzuki, with Stroud coming home the victor by 0.089 secs and 0.163 secs respectively.

Just prior to the running of the final race, a heavy rain shower passed over, leaving the track, wet but drying out quickly in the wind. Rees opted to run intermediate tyres but the track didn’t dry out fast enough. Left him and Stroud, who had decided to use slicks, battling for fifth.

Ex Pat Bruce Anstey, on full wets, took a commanding lead and the win, elevating him to the top of the point’s table with 115 points.

Rees remains in third, four points behind Auckland’s Ray Clee on 99 points.
"It will be great to get home to some decent weather," Rees said after the meeting.
