Rees Victorious in First Race Back:

Whakatane Yamaha dealer, Tony Rees put a blinding passing move on Auckland’s Ray Clee one lap from home to take the win in his first race after a twelve month absence from road racing, day one of the first round of the New Zealand Superbike Championship at Ruapuna Park, just outside Christchurch, on Saturday.
With the onset of steady rain and strong winds on Sunday morning, the twenty-one strong Superbike field struggled with the conditions.

Difficulty in acclimatising himself to the tread pattern of his Yamaha R1’s new wet weather tyres, forced Rees to allow both Jared Love (Honda) and Ray Clee (Suzuki) to overtake him in the Superbike Grand Prix late on Sunday.

Three times Isle of Mann Production TT winner, Bruce Anstey, home from England for the Summer Series took the double in the wet to win both Race Two and the Superbike Grand Prix on his Suzuki.

Rees, a former Superbike champion, collected a fourth and fifth along with his win, to finish round one third on the points table behind Anstey and Clee.

Rees is looking forward to round two at Teretonga, Invercargill next weekend
