Final Round NZ MX Champs:

Report: Courtesy - Shayne Rice:

Despite the sad weather Auckland had been presented with in the last few days, the sun was shining for the final round of the New Zealand Motocross Champs which were held at Harrisville just outside Pukekohe in Auckland.

There were no surprises - as the current class leaders all held on to the end to take their respective crowns.

The 125 class was a spectacle in itself with Cody Cooper (Honda) coming into the last round just a mere 3 points behind Daryl Hurley (Suzuki). With Cooper taking out the first two motos, Hurley had to win the final moto of the day to take the Number 1 plate from last years Champion, Cooper. As the gate dropped in the final race, it was Hurley with the holeshot and clear vision. Cooper however was back in 19th position. With Cooper charging hard through the pack, it was obvious to the huge crowd that he was chipping his way at Hurley’s lead by at least 2 seconds per lap, unfortunately for Cooper he ran out of time, as the final lap came to an end it was Hurley who took the honors with Cooper in 2nd place just 4 seconds later and Queenstown’s Scott Columb (Suzuki) for third.

The 250 title was retained by Shayne King (Honda). Shayne took two wins in this class with Peter Broxholme (Honda) taking 1 himself to secure the Number 2 plate and Shaun Fogarty (KTM) third.

The 500 class was an all King affair as you would expect here in New Zealand. Shayne King (Honda) has now notched up his 28th National victory by his 1-2-2 result with brother Darryl King (Yamaha) retaining 2nd place and Cory Sargent (Honda) moving up from his 4th last year to third.
