TEAM GREEN SET TO TAKE ON THE 6 HOUR

Kawasaki will have a mixture of youth and experience in their line up for this weekend’s Hawkes Bay 6-Hour Challenge, being run on the Taihape Road, 15 minutes from Fernhill.

Whakatane’s Joel Burns will join Rotorua’s Michael Phillips on his Patterson and O’Connor backed KX250-M two-stroke. Phillips is currently 8th in the National 125cc Motocross Championship, while Burns recently signed to ride a KX250-F four-stroke for Underwood and Wilkins.
Phillips and Burns are both young and keen and what they lack in endurance experience, they will make up for in enthusiasm.

A TEAM TO BE WATCHED.

We then move on to the experienced, Mr Motorcycles Director, Pukekohe’s Craig Brown, who has posted some convincing results recently in the Auckland and Waikato regions on his KX125-M. He will team up with reigning 0-200cc class Cross Country Champion, Norsewood’s Kevin Hermason. Hermason took his AFC Motorcycles (Palmerston North) Kawasaki to second in the New Zealand 0-200cc Enduro Champs.
With this amount of experience the team will place well and could conceivably finish in the top three overall.

Another youth team will be headed by Hamilton’s Todd Mardon, the current New Zealand 0-200cc Enduro Champion, who will jump onto teammate Kyle Smith’s Mr Motorcycles supported KX250-M for the 6-Hour. Smith, who works as Spares Manager for Mr Motorcycles, is no stranger to competition, running 12th in the current New Zealand 250cc Motocross Championship.

Not to be out done by his partner in Mr Motorcycles (Pukekohe), Scott Wilkins will team up with another top contender from their junior days, Ben Gage Brown on Ben’s KX250F. It is also rumoured these two have been sneaking in a little fitness training.

To round off the GREEN attack, we have the new Enduro Team from Tauranga’s Bay City Motorcycles.
Dealer Andy Murdoch has put together an Enduro team for 2004 and the boys will debut their KDX200 at the 6-Hour. The team consists of Anton Giacon, Andy’s mechanic and Tauranga’s Ben Thomason, another talented endurance rider returning to the fold after a break.
