ROUND THREE - SSANGYONG NZ 2004 MOTOCROSS, TRENTHAM

Darryll King was a model of consistency in yesterday’s round of the SSANGYONG NZ 2004 MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The evergreen rider raced at full stretch for two hours on a warm Wellington afternoon. In the open class, he won all three races; he also took out the 125 round. Despite all of this, the Waikato man doesn’t lead either class on consolidated points.

125 Class:
The continent hopping Daryl Hurley (Hawera) won two motos yesterday and this maintains his series lead, a lead he has not relinquished since the first race of the series. Current title holder, Cody Cooper (Opotiki), lost his appetite for the course that produced a hat trick of wins for him last year. Darryll King, has stormed from nowhere to be in contention after a 1, 2 and 3 record yesterday. He had been keen to do all races in the class but didn’t have the co-operation of his bike at the Timaru round.

Series points - D Hurley 173, C Cooper 170, S Columb 153, L Burkhart 135, B Morris 134, D King. 132

250 Class:
The top three shuffled themselves around. Danny Ham (Australia) dropped from the top and Shayne King (New Plymouth) took over, whilst the unlucky Peter Broxholme (Tauranga) sticks to third spot. King’s two wins yesterday makes it six for the series. After slipping to second Danny Ham revealed that green and yellow commitments prevent him from competing in the last round in New Zealand.

500 Class:
Darryll King won the round collecting maximum points. Shayne King and Corrie Sargent (Wellington) collected the minor placings and finished second and third respectively on the day. American visitor Rory Sullivan beguiled the large crowd with his riding and his friendliness. After scoring two sixths and a fourth on an unfamiliar bike, Sullivan mixed freely with the riders and public and generally gave a good account of himself.
