Good Times Near the Castle:

Kawasaki took the 'Good Times' to the rural settlement of Mangatawhiri, situated approximately 10kms east of the Bombay hills on State Highway 2.
The area is well known for the Castle, a favourite road side stop for food, refreshments and ice creams. Local Kawasaki dealer MR Motorcycles of Pukekohe in conjunction with the Pukekohe Motorcycle Club marked out a free flowing, fun, natural terrain grass scrambles track.

Sunday morning dawned fine and brisk with the threat of showers, but this didn’t prevent riders coming from far and wide to take in the fun and excitement that the Good Times Scrambles has to offer. Nearly 300 riders aged between 6 and 65, with a huge variety of abilities and machine capacities got a packed, quick fire race program.

Junior riders had three age/capacity group races and a feature final, while senior riders competed in two engine capacity, two age group and one ability grade race. Five races in total. Regular rain showers made the conditions quite slippery but this didn’t faze the riders as they were too busy having a good time. Even the landowner and his son took part in the action between milking his cows.

The venue at Mangatawhiri is well suited to spectators and a constant stream of cars pulled over to watch the spectacle, some remaining for the entire day. A large number of riders who have not competed for almost a decade turned out for this event, smiles and grins evident after their first race. Their excitement of being able to compete with no hassles or stress was infectious to anybody who came in contact with them.

The day wrapped up with a BBQ thanks to local fundraisers and a spot prize draw for products supplied by W. White Wholesale and Kawasaki.

While stories unfolded of the racing during the day, a team of young competitors helped to clean up the paddock, everyone being packed up and on their way home before sunset, content with a good day out.
