Race Report AMA Supermoto Championship Nashville

Sorry for my delay with this report, however I have been in Europe for the Intermot bike show.

The third round of the AMA Supermoto Championship was in Nashville last weekend, after have a good showing at the first two rounds in Copper mountain Team HMC KTM offered to support me for the remainder of the season.
The track was not the best with a very small dirt section and was my first night race.

AMA SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 3 NASHVILLE;

TIME QUALIFICATION - 2ND

HEAT RACE - 3RD

FINAL - 5TH

COMMENTS:
My day started out really great and I felt I could get my first podium this year by showing great speed in the time qualification and even though I was 3rd in my heat race I set the fastest lap time. The track was really hard to pass so I rode a bit tight in my heat and could not make a pass into the top two postions. I knew it was important to have finished 1st or 2nd in my heat to have a from row start for the final.

I started on the second row in the final and made a great start I came out in 4th right on the leaders. I tried to make a pass in the dirt section and when I went to pull my clutch in it would not disengage and I stalled the bike, we had been having some problems throughout the day with the clutch as we run a slider clutch, the bike would not restart and by the time I had it going again the leader was coming around to lap me.

I just pushed as hard as I could from that moment and worked my way back to 5th in the 24 lap final, I had a real challenge as I could not use my clutch the whole race. Under these circumstances I was really happy with the end result and I can not wait for the next round to prove myself.

I want to thank specially Team HMC and Chuck, my new mechanic for their support and effort, we are working hard to put ourselves on top of the podium before the season is up.

Thank you to all of you for your support.

Kind Regards,
Darryl Atkins
