ISDE 2004: Day 2 - Merriman streaks ahead, whilst Salminen encounters difficulties:

By Lexy Thorogood

Merriman continued in winning form on Day 2. The riders completed two loops of the same 125km course completed yesterday, although today it was a lot rougher and bumpier with incredible dust.

Merriman and Salminen were seperated by less than a second in the first two tests - then Juha failed to appear at the next time control within the allocated time. Rumour has it he ran into problems with engine failure on his KTM 450 and rushed to make repairs so he could continue the day and enable his score to be counted in the overall Trophy Teams results from tomorrow onwards. He was over 40 minutes late to the time check which means he is almost certainly out of the running for a place on the podium in the individual class honours. Merriman continued in his onslaught in the dust to win the Enduro 2 class by 35 seconds over Junior Finnish rider, Valteri Salonen.
