The New Zealand Oceania Road Race Team:

The New Zealand Oceania team to compete at the Phillip Island GP on October 15/16 have been announced.

Team Manager is the veteran rider, Brian Bernard, of Wanganui who is also MNZ’s Road High Performance Coach and his two protégées have been selected – Hayden Fitzgerald (New Plymouth) and Dominic Jones (Invercargill), both nineteen year olds.

In his maiden year aboard a 600 Sports Production bike Fitzgerald finished fifth in the points after a slow start. Dominic Jones was runner up in the 125 class spending most of the summer chasing the visiting Englishman, Midge Smart. Jones is being individually groomed to step up to the 600cc bike.

Aucklander, Gary Cunningham (25), has broken into the team and makes his debut on the back of a solid sixth last summer in the 600 Sports Production.

Jared Love(Hamilton) has the thickest riding CV, the 27 year old withdrew from the 2004 National Points Series after the two rounds but bounced back at the end of the season winning the John Britten Memorial (600 Sport Production) at Ruapuna.

The team will base itself on Phillip Island for a week.
