Coppins drives through the night to win Ken Hall Trophy!

If you thought that two intense Grand Prix races were tough on the body and mind, try driving through the night to race another two gruelling 30 minute moto’s at the Ken Hall Trophy in Langrish UK to top it all off. Well, New Zealand’s Josh Coppins is a sucker for punishment and after his third position podium in Gaildorf on Sunday, the CAS Honda star hit the road to catch a late night ferry crossing only to arrive in Langrish at 06h00. A few hours of shut eye and Coppins was ready to race!

Lizzard posted the fastest qualifying time and was set for pole. He was involved in a first turn pileup in race one and it took the Kiwi some time to untangle his bike and get going again. The newly crowned British Champ was not about to give up and he rode a superb comeback race. After reeling in most of the field with names like, Crockard, Burnham, Huclebridge, and Atsuta, Coppins passed Belgian, Sven Breuglemans to take the lead with five minutes to go. An unbelievable race by Coppins as he took his first victory of the day.

Coppins stayed out of trouble in the second heat and he was placed behind fellow CAS team-mate, Atsuta in second position. It didn’t take the Kiwi long to steal the lead – he checked out and rode a smooth, calculated race to take his second victory and overall win for the day.

“The track was just awesome,” explained a tired Coppins “It’s the best I’ve ever ridden it. It was perfect all day. I was really pumped with the first race. I must admit I was taking it easy in the last race but then again I think most of the top guys were knackered from driving all night. It’s time for a few days of rest.”
