Former Sidecar Road Racing National Champion Jack Hart, 61, was killed Wednesday, July 28 in a head-on car crash in Shelton, Washington.

Police say the crash was caused by a young driver trying to pass three cars in a no-passing zone. Alcohol may have been involved in the incident, according to local news reports.

Hart teamed as sidecar passenger with driver Bruce Lind to win the National Sidecar Championship in 1981, 1983 and 1985, finishing second in 1982 and 1984. The pair also won the 1985-1986 New Zealand Sidecar Championship.

Funeral services are pending.
