Coppins continues British winning streak.

Josh Coppins has added the sixth round of the Maxis British MX Championship to his victory list at the former GP circuit of Hawkstone Park this weekend. He also qualified fastest in his qualifying session setting the pace for the weekend.

Coppins, aboard his factory CAS Honda, could not master the concrete starting pad in race one and had to fight through the pack after a missed start. The New Zealander managed to work his way though to second position but did not have enough time to close down Estonion, Tanel Leok who took first heat honours.

“Lizzard” was determined not to be taken by surprise again and after analysing the slippery starting surface the Kiwi grabbed the hole-shot as he lead into the first turn. For four laps a battle ensued between Coppins and Leok with the latter cracking under the pressure. Coppins attacked the rough and undulating circuit to pull almost a half a minute lead as he crossed the finished line for overall victory.

“I had some trouble with the concrete start and wheel spun as I left the gate. Tanel was gone before I could get though the pack. I wasn’t enjoying the track as it was really rough and choppy but I still managed to win the second moto with a reasonable gap. That puts me 47 points in the championship lead so I’m quite happy with that,” commented Coppins.
