to Sponsor NZ MX Championships:
Motorcycling New Zealand has announced that the motor vehicle distributor SSANGYONG NZ: will be naming rights sponsor for the National Motocross
Championships in 2004.
The SSANGYONG NZ 2004 MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS will start on August the
8th in Timaru.
In making the joint announcement, Russell Burling, Managing Director of
SsangYong New Zealand, importers of SsangYong motor vehicles, said "I am very
pleased to be able to sponsor the national motocross series. Having been closely
involved with motocross in my younger days, I am very aware of the huge effort
put in by the competitors and the levels of fitness required to compete in this
demanding sport. It gives me great pleasure to see the often unheralded
world-wide achievements of New Zealanders such as the King brothers and now
youngsters like Josh Coppins and Ben Townley. Hopefully sponsorship from
SsangYong will assist others to succeed internationally."
SsangYong NZ imports the full range of SsangYong vehicles both 4WD and 2WD from
South Korea. Trevor Gill, CEO of MNZ added, "It's going to be another fantastic series. We
have a series that will showcase some of the best motocross riders in the
world on great natural tracks - all that was missing was a naming sponsor.
SsangYong NZ heads the sponsorship family along with the class sponsors
comprised of Kawasaki NZ, KTM NZ, Blue Wing Honda, Suzuki NZ and Yamaha NZ."
This year's series incorporates a couple of innovations said Mr. Gill. "For the
first time we are integrating the men's and ladies' championship - the ladies
will ride in rounds one and four. It's also the first year of franchising
- the four host clubs are organizing their rounds under a licence to MNZ. One of the reasons we did this was to develop better corporate
partners."
Series dates:
August 08 - Timaru
August 29 - Rotorua
September 26 - Trentham Race Course
October 31 - Pukekohe (Harrisville)
