‘Suzuki Ice Breaker’

Suzuki Trail Sprint - held 12-13 June was a great ride attracting 100 riders on Saturday and 200 on Sunday.

Perma frost and frozen puddles gave the lead riders a fright with their bikes acting like Icebreaker ships ploughing through puddles frozen one cm thick!

Based at the Iwitahi Outdoor camp, East of Taupo on the Napier Road meant the ride was attended by riders from the Central North Island and Hawkes Bay.

Two tracks existed of 35 and 45 km plus a Mini track and Trail Sprint track.

The riders were stoked with the pumice tracks that produce the best berms to attack. No mud, or grass clay hills here, just flowing trails with mega traction.

Trail Sprint is a fresh concept to include at a trail ride. Riders get to line up on a 300 metre course and crank around trying for the best time. Pretty much like a small taste of Enduro at a trail ride. The highlight had to be the youngin on the 50cc bike zooming around the trail to attract a big cheer from the onlookers. Maybe a budding Sean Clarke in training???

The Trail Sprint was won by Sweep Rider Duncan on a new Suzuki RMZ 250 with a time 1 second quicker than the nearest rival.

Riders enjoyed staying at the camp and on Saturday evening enjoyed a few drinks, some music, hot fires and a yarn with their mates.

On Sunday a 2nd track was opened which was great for the riders who signed on for the weekend.

So all in all, another great Epic Trail ride following up from the awesome Suzuki Desert Storm run in April.
