GNCC Round 9, Petersburg, Virginia:

Team KTM Offroad racer Shane Watts experienced a very eventful day of racing, for all the wrong reasons, at Round 9 of the GNCC series in Petersburg, Virginia over the weekend.

"I totally missed the start and had to work from the back of the pack right away. By the end of the first lap I had moved forward into 6th place and was just cruising along. However though, towards the end of the second lap I clipped a tree and then bounced across the track into the next big one. It was an abrupt halt and a substantial period of time laying on the ground in pain. At the end of that lap I was a full two minutes behind the leaders."

"From there I just charged and proceeded to reel off the fastest laps in the middle stages of the race despite having four more major time consuming and painful wipe outs. With two laps remaining I had clawed my way up to within striking distance of the leaders when one final massive cartwheeling crash took me out of the race."

"My bike was all bent up, but I was just glad to get out of there with only a bruised and scuffed up body, because they were all major get-off's. I haven't crashed like that for a long time. I'm gonna be stiff and sore tomorrow!"

"I'm pretty devastated about the whole outcome. Those were my kind of conditons, and not only was I going fast, but my fitness was great too. As the race wore on I was feeling stronger and charging hard. I was set on victory.

The next chance for Watts to make amends for this disappointing result is at round 10 of the GNCC at the Wisp ski resort, Maryland on June 27.
