NZ Junior Motocross Championship:

Record entries saw over 270 competitors gather to compete in the 2004 New Zealand Junior Motocross Championships over the weekend (April 24-25). The annual gathering of New Zealand\'s supreme junior talent with a handful of Australia\'s thrown into the mix, competed to win one of the five nationals crowns up for grabs.

The McKinstry brothers of Taupo dominated their respective classes, Scott winning the 8-10yrs 85cc class by a small margin of 1 point, and Lee the 12-14yrs 125cc class.

Matt Hunt (Gisborne) had eight wins from nine races to win the 11-12yrs 85cc class. Hunt adds this victory to his previous two New Zealand titles, making it three in the last four season\'s.

Winning two consecutive titles is Jonathon Llewellyn (Cambridge) making the move from the 85cc class last season to the 15-16yrs 125cc class. Jonathon won what was a tight finish with only 7 points separating the top 3 finishers.

The feature class for the weekend\'s racing was the 13-16yrs 85cc class. Racing between Tommy Madams (Wellington) & Brad Groombridge (Taupo) could not have been closer.

Going into the final race only six points separated them. Although Brad won the race by 9 seconds over Tommy, it was not enough to crown him overall champion. Tommy winning the title by three points.
