Hamilton\'s Subway Yamaha rider Darryll King easily won three National four stroke Championships over the Easter weekend south of Hamilton. The track was once again one of the best this country has seen and the amazing weather all weekend long provided the fans and over 200 riders with perfect race conditions.
King riding three different Subway Yamaha YZF machines in the 250cc, 450cc and Open classes won 13 from 15 races and powered away to win some of the races by 20 seconds.
Kings main competition came from Motocross Champions Shayne King and Cody Cooper Team Honda. King claimed 11 of the holeshots on his Subway Yamaha machines. He missed out on winning one of his races after falling over in one of the soft berms while leading with four turns to go. In the other race Cody Cooper and DK battled inches apart for most of the race until the two riders flew to the finish flag side by side. Cooper won by half a wheel.
\" Wow what a weekend for Subway Yamaha. I am really surprised at my feeling on the bike this year, I have hardly started my serious riding and I\'m riding my bikes better than I ever have. It was not as tough as I thought it would be riding three classes. I rode for over two hours all up on Saturday and felt really good on Sunday morning once I got back on the bike. Thanks to everyone in the team for their incredible help over the weekend, we are on track heading into the Australian and New Zealand Motocross Championships, hopefully I can keep up the good starts and stay strong throughout\" King said.
King starts his Australia Mr Motocross campaign in less than five weeks in Melbourne. He will ride for the CDR Boost Mobile Yamaha team in the Pro lite and Pro Open classes.
Subway Yamaha rider Mason Phillips finished the 250cc championship in third place after a consistent weekend.
\" I had an up and down weekend but felt comfortable on my new YZ 250F. I was never able to challenge DK or
Cody - however I had fun and made the podium\" Mason said.
Nigel Smith did not quite get the starts he wanted over the weekend and finished up in 7th position overall in the 250cc class. He fought hard and his best result was a fourth placing in race two.
Subway Yamaha motocross legend Tony Cooksley rode smooth all weekend long and won his Veteran class easily ahead of Grahame Adams riding a KTM.
\" It was another amazing track and I really enjoyed myself. Riding the YZ450F was lots of fun. I managed to take smooth lines as the weekend went on and easily win my class\" Tony said.
