Coppins a few points off MX 1 championship lead.

Josh Coppins now trails seven times MX world champion, Stefan Everts by a mere four points after a gruelling weekend of mud and sludge at the MX 1 GP in Bellpuig - Spain.

The twenty seven year old GP star has proved today that his consistency is one of his greatest attributes. Coppins chased Everts for most of race one aboard his CAS Honda and at some points looked to be pressursing his Belgian competitor. A well deserved second place finish confirmed the Kiwi\'s intententions.

\"My start was ok and I managed to get past Gundersen and Strijbos quite fast. I had some good lines going and I managed to hang onto Stefan for quite some time.\" commented the Lizard.

Once again the number thirty-one factory Honda rider was among the top starters as the pack wound its way around the one lined undulating circuit in race two. Both Coppins and Everts gave chase to the early leader, Brian Jorgensen and by the half way mark the duo had hunted down the Dane. Everts m! anaged to pass while back markers made it difficult for Coppins to make a final assault for second postition thus crossing the finish line in third nonetheless giving him a second overall for the day and second in the MX1 world championship standings.

\"I have gained even more confidence after today\'s result. The track conditions were difficult for everybody however I really enjoyed it out there. I can still improve on my starts but the main goal is to now start pressurising for the championship.\" commented Coppins.
