New Zealand Motocross Championships Final Round,
Pukekohe November 16, 2003.

Superb weather set the scene for what was to be a great day for Shayne and an even better one for his main sponsor Blue Wing Honda.

The Harrisville, Pukekohe track was hard packed and fast, guaranteeing a great racing spectacle for the huge crowd, who were to witness an historic event with the Castrol Honda Red Riders taking the number one plate in all three classes. The first time in Australasian Motocross history that a distributor backed team has done so!

In the 250 class Shayne had only lost one race out of the previous three rounds, though instead of cruising to an easy Championship win by just racing for points he stamped his authority on the class by convincingly winning all three 250 races at Pukekohe aboard the Honda CR250.

The battle for the 500cc class was somewhat harder with Shayne fighting with his Yamaha mounted elder brother Darryll over the latter stages of the series. At the start of the days racing there were just six points separating the two brothers, Shayne won the first two races and with the points earned from those giving him enough of a cushion over Darryll that he was able to ease up in the last race and settle for fourth place, secure in the knowledge that he had again secured the open class title.

This is the second year running that Shayne has taken out both the 250 & 500cc titles for the Castrol Honda Red Riders Team and brings his New Zealand Motocross titles to an unbelievable total of 22! Added to his recent Australian Four Stroke Motocross title this rounds off a very successful and enjoyable year for the former 500cc World Motocross Champion.

The Castrol Honda Red Riders day was finished off in style by 18 year old Cody Cooper aboard the new CR250F taking out the 125cc title ahead of Darryll King. Red was a popular colour in the pits post race, reminiscent of recent Formula One races!
