Honda Wins the Third Round - NZ MX Champs:

The third round of the New Zealand Senior Motocross Championships was held in Huntly over the weekend under threatening skies.

After the days first round, the predicted bad weather arrived turning the hard and fast surface into a mud bath reminiscent of last years event forcing the organisers to shorten the programme from 3 motos in each class to 2.

Castrol Honda Red Rider Shayne King once again dominated the Open class with start to finish wins over Yamaha’s Darryll King, with third place for the day and series to date going to Peter Glidden Honda supported rider Damien King who has shown great speed and solid form throughout the 2002-2003 season.

The 250cc class was once again controlled totally by Shayne King. With the absence of Honda rider Peter Broxholme who is out with injury, Suzuki rider Mark Penny was able to move up the points ladder, but still trails King by 41 points. Despite missing a complete round with injury Broxholme still holds fifth place overall in the series.

Castrol Honda Red Rider Cody Cooper dominated the 125cc class with two impressive wins in the rain shortened event, bringing his consecutive 125cc class wins to a total of six, a run of wins made all the more impressive in the company of Yamaha riders Darryll King and Barry Morris.

Castrol Honda Red Rider Race Team Manager Dave Borlase said: ”Despite the atrocious conditions our strategy for the penultimate round went to plan and we are now looking forward to the final round at Pukekohe on the 16th and 17th of November.”
