Blue Wing Honda Ltd. - Media Release:
King takes Australian Crown

The final round of the Staintune Australian 4-stroke Nationals was held at Wonthaggi, Victoria over the weekend.

With blustering conditions, but an immaculately prepared track, Castrol Honda Red Rider Shayne King clinched the Pro open class title despite a stressful start to the day with engine problems seeing him DNF the first moto. The start of the second moto saw a determined King re-establish his series form with an emphatic win, from the drop of the gate to the chequered flag. In the third and final moto the start was stolen by fellow Castrol Honda Red Rider Cody Cooper who led for four laps at a pace that few of the other riders could match.
In the later part of the race Shayne King took the lead from Cooper, then with the series and the title clearly in the bag King backed the pressure off slightly which allowed Cooper to pass him two corners from the flag and take the moto win, thus resulting in Cooper taking 5th place overall in the series for the Pro open class, two points behind KTM rider Jay Marmont in 4th place.

Castrol Honda Red Riders Race Team Manager Dave Borlase said” This years Australian 4-stroke championship has been an exciting but demanding series. The focus and discipline that both Shayne King and Cody Cooper have shown, leaves me with no doubt that with 2004 season contracts in place for both riders with Blue Wing Honda and our negotiations with Honda Australia almost complete, we can look forward to an exciting and potentially rewarding 2004 season. The success of our 2003 Australian campaign was brought about by the efforts of a committed group of individuals including; Glen ‘Jimmy’ Macartney, Darryn Henderson, Richard Adamson and Simon Borlase, for which their assistance is gratefully acknowledged ”.

The Castrol Honda Red Riders are now back to focusing on the New Zealand Motocross Nationals, with the 3rd Round to be held in Huntly this coming weekend the 27th and 28th of September.
