COPPINS TO UK FINAL

Motocross ace Josh Coppins heads back to England this week for the final round of the British championship on Sunday.

The world champs star will ride his CAS Honda CR250R at Pontrilas near Hereford on the Welsh border. \"I\'m not in contention for the title after missing the early rounds when I was coming back from injury,\" explained the 26-year-old expat Kiwi. \"But I\'ve ridden the most recent British rounds and they\'re always enjoyable. \"These races are important for our English team and we get a lot of support from the local fans . and from the team sponsors as well. \"And now we\'ve just had the news that Britain will definitely host a round of the world champs next year, after missing out for a few seasons. That\'s great for the sport here.\"

Motueka-born Coppins says he has not ridden on the Pontrilas circuit before. \"They say it\'s grassy with natural terrain and no big artificial jumps, so that\'s a lot like New Zealand tracks,\" he commented. \"I\'m looking forward to it.\"

Fresh from his fourth placing in the glamour class at last Sunday\'s Grand Prix in the Czech Republic, Coppins will be a top contender at the British event.

His strongest competition is likely to come from within the CAS squad, especially Irish star Gordon Crockard who battled with Coppins in the Czech before becoming tangled in a crash. \"Gordon\'s riding very well at the moment,\" said Coppins. \"And it\'s always interesting to put my 250 two-stroke up against the 450 four-stroke Honda.\"

New Zealand\'s top motorcycle racer, Coppins is on the comeback from breaking his back, ankle and both feet early this year.

A week after Pontrilas he contests the final round of the world champs at Ernee in France.
