Press Release - From Glen Dempsey:

Townley chases Everts to podium.

Ben Townley, the eighteen-year-old Motocross prodigy from Taupo, New Zealand has chased home motocross legend Stefan Everts in an outstanding performance at the spectacular circuit of Loket – Czech Republic.

After placing second in the Saturday qualification which was plagued by rain, the skies had cleared for the 125 GP race as the thirty fastest GP riders lined up alongside each other to do battle. BT hugged a tight line in the 180° hairpin start turn and emerged just inside the top ten as the pack shot past pit lane. BT was trailing Everts’ back wheel from lap one and used the opportunity to learn from the later-to-be crowned 7 times world champion. The Everts – Townley train was derailed when the factory 125 KTM could not get past former world champ, Andrea Bartolini.

The talented Townley seemed to have lost his rhythm when with ten minutes to go the number eighteen bike started to hunt down Bartolini once again. A three way tussle ensued with BT disposing of both “Barto” and reigning world champ, Michael Machio. By this time, Stefan Everts had turned on his cruise control as BT worked his factory 125 KTM machine into a well fought second position which would give the New Zealander his second consecutive podium for the season.

“I followed Stefan in the start of the race but then I got stuck behind Bartolini. I should have got past sooner and gone with Stefan.
My goal was to finish the last ten minutes of the race really well which I managed to do. I need a better start if am going to have a chance at beating Stefan. In Lierop(Netherlands) I was fourth; Gaildorf(Germany) third; today(Czech Rep.) second - let’s see what Erneé(France) brings?” commented the determined phenomenon.
