Castrol Honda Red Riders dominate second round:

The Yamaha sponsored second round of the New Zealand Motocross Nationals was held at the Trentham racecourse in Wellington over the weekend under clear skies.

Castrol Honda Red Riders Shayne King and Cody Cooper dominated their respective classes on the day with Shayne King conceding only one race in the 500cc class to older brother Darryll King.

Castrol Honda Red Rider Corrie Sargent took third place on the podium for the day despite a heavy crash in race two. Corries form continues to improve and has seen him close to within 8 points of Peter Glidden racing supported Honda rider Damien King who is in third place overall in the 500cc class.

In the 250cc class Shayne King once again showed total domination taking all 3 motos by a huge margin with second place going to Honda rider Peter “Broxy” Broxholme increasing his lead to 13 points over Suzuki rider Mark Penny.

The 125cc class was won outright by Cody Cooper with three wins from three starts. Cooper and Yamaha rider Darryll King (YZF250) raced hard over the full length of the motos to chase down and eventually pass Scottish Champion Barry Morris, who showed incredible pace off the start and through the early stages of all three motos.

Castrol Honda Red Riders Race Team Manager Dave Borlase said: “The results from the weekend are a reflection of the commitment that the team is putting in, not only with great riding from Shayne King, Cody Cooper and Corrie Sargent but also from Glenn “Jimmy” Macartney whose constant engine development has produced highly competitive machines and with race day support from Darren Hendersen, our overall dynamic is very well balanced.”

The next round of the Nationals is to be hosted by the Huntly Motorcycle Club on the 28th of September.
