Team Yamaha rider Darryll King won both the 125cc class and the 500cc class at round one of the New Zealand motocross championships held in Amberly north of Christchurch on Sunday.

The track was one of the most exciting in the country with technical rut sections and fast flowing corners with plenty of hills. Spectators were treated to a awesome show of skill and speed in cool but fine conditions.

The 125cc class was dominated by Darryll King on his YZ250F. After an almost last place start in race one he fought back and passed race leader Mike Cotter on the final lap for the win. Race two DK held the lead from the start and won easily from Michael Phillips. In the final race DK held the lead until his exhaust pipe departed from his bike and he cruised to a second place finish to win the day ahead of Cody Cooper ( Team Honda)

Shayne King on his Honda dominated the 250cc class. He won all three races ahead of Peter Broxholme. Nigel Smith on his YZ250R was outstanding in the second race finishing second close behind Shayne King. Smith finished the day in 3rd overall.

The 500cc class provided race fans with excitement from the drop of the gate. DK and SK had there usual ding dong battle but this time DK came out on top. Race one concluded with a spectacular finish, SK went into the last lap with the lead, however DK was not to be out smarted, passing his younger brother and winning the race by a 100th of a second. SK won the second race just ahead of DK. In the third race DK pulled ahead on the first lap and powered away to win by more than ten seconds.
