Suzuki 2003 Central Enduro, Rnd 5

Posted: Tue 22 Jul 2003

Sunday 20th July turned on a stunning day for Round 5 of the Suzuki 2003 Central Enduro Series. Santoft forest, just out of Bulls, was cool and calm with beautiful blue skies and, best of all, 246 riders looking for some fun. Yes, 199 of them were trail riders but that still left a very respectable 47 Enduro riders.

Current overall series leader Steven Bird sat this one out, opting to help instead.

This opened up the Expert class & John McKee (CRF450), despite bouncing off a few trees, took an early lead, winning the first Terrain Test by 2 seconds from Glen Manning (KTM250).

Ross Bird (WR250) and Brett Crighton (CRF450) shared the honours in the 2nd TT with Glen a mere 5 seconds behind them. The third Terrain Test was longer then most people expected and was the decider, with Glen Manning beating Brett Crighton by 7 seconds.

Stephen Sergeant (RM125) had another great day, easily being the fastest Intermediate rider. He now has a comfortable lead in the Intermediate Under class, having won in all four rounds that he has entered.

Likewise, Murray Searle (YZ250) continues to dominate the Veterans class and now has an unassailable lead going into the final round (Gwavas, September 21st).

Richard Kinvig (RMX250), despite finishing 2nd to Karl Palamountain (WR400) in the Intermediate Over, has maintained his class lead from Richard Downer (another helper on the day).

Shane England (YZF250) had an unfortunate off in the 2nd TT and was rumoured to have bent a few ribs. Here\'s hoping that it is nothing more serious and that Shane is on the path to recovery.
