MOTORSPORT NETWORK - Press Release :
Rees Replaces Injured Riders in Australian Formula Xtreme Series:
Whakatane’s Tony Rees confirmed today, that he would be racing at round four of the Australian Formula Xtreme Series at Queensland Raceway over Queen’s Birthday weekend.
The former New Zealand Superbike Champion will be riding a 2003 model Yamaha R1, for the Nikon Yamaha Factory Racing Team.
Rees had been contacted by series organiser Terry O’Neill and was considering taking the Yamaha R1, he campaigned successfully in this year’s \"Battle Of The Street\" series, to the last couple of rounds of this year’s series.
After both their top riders, Kevin Curtain and Daniel Stauffer crashed in recent rounds, Nikon Yamaha Factory Racing, contacted Rees and asked him to campaign one of their R1s in this round of the Xtreme series.
\" This is a great opportunity, rather than having to prepare a machine, ship it to Aussie etc, now I just get on a plane and go racing,\" said Rees from his Whakatane base today.
\"I am really looking forward to getting back out there with the top Aussies,\" added Rees.
