‘Taupo Trail Blazin’

You know those forests you cruise through when travelling from Rotorua to Taupo on State Highway 5, the mature established pine forests full of ferns that look just perfect for a trail ride? Maybe you do and maybe you don’t, but one thing is for sure – the forests do have some great trail riding.

Suzuki Trail Blazer was a start up event held 14-15 September in 2002 following on from the success of Epic Events Suzuki Desert Storm 2000 and 2001.

For the 03 ride, Epic Events has secured 25 acres of rolling grass paddock for some funtastic grass track blasting. So punters have the choice – head for the bush trails or crank it up on the grass.

Trail Blazer is scheduled for 16-17 August and is located in the Tahorakuri forest on State Highway 5, just 25 km North East or Taupo bordering the Waikato River.
The forest is of rolling terrain with a maze of old logging tracks to negotiate. Single track sections provide the buzz for those who like the tighter trails. The soil type is free draining volcanic ash making for great all weather traction.

There will be two main forest trails of at least 40 km known as The ‘River loop’ and the ‘Highway loop’, a kids forest and grass track plus the awesome 4km rolling grass track. A challenge trail will be added for 03 made up of a few snotty hills, log crossings and rough trail.

Coaching for kids will be provided by a Kiwi Rider Coaching Senior Trainer. So Parents can drop the kids into the ‘crèche’ and get to ride stress free.

A paddock right next to the forest provides parking, camp sites and a great base. A central marquee will provide the centre for socialising, dining and shelter. Camping on site is free of charge. Of course riders may like to choose a warm motel in Taupo, just 20 minutes from the events base.

And scooter racing… did we mention scooter racing? Start building that race scooter for the first Epic Events 2 person per scooter moped mayhem scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Huge laughs, craziness and big prizes up for grabs for the King of the scootz.

Also stay tuned for more info on Desert Storm – 18-19 October, Ruapehu for another two day trail ride blast around Mt Ruapehu.

Full details and an entry form for Trail Blazer will be out in the next Kiwi Rider magazine and at epicevents.co.nz:
