MNZ Press Release:

Women’s And Veterans Motocross Champs:
Katherine Prumm Continues to Impress:

14 year old Katherine Prumm of Pukekohe has continued her rich vein of form. After catching many an expert eye at the recent National Junior Championships she has now taken out the National Women’s Junior Title. She maybe the Scott Dixon of motocross, a stellar future lies ahead of the young Pukekohe High School student.

The Women’s Championship was held in conjunction with the National Veterans Championship last weekend held at Egmont Village just outside New Plymouth. The 2003 Women’s Senior Title was won by Jamie Lee Caldwell of Turangi.

The Veterans Championship held in the hometown of the most famous New Zealand brothers may have even attracted Shayne and Darryl King but both are riding in the US Championships at present.

The highlight was the appearance of 70s international rider, Ivan Miller, who recently returned home after living in England. Miller, 54, hasn’t competed in Motocross for 20 years.
Proving the old adage, “Class is permanent,” he borrowed a bike and easily won the 50 – 54-yr. class.

Another on the comeback was local man David Furze (35). Furze battled all weekend with Christchurch’s Graeme Allan in the 35-39 class. Allan took the title leaving Furze in second place and with an ankle fracture after a fall in the final race.

The sport is very healthy in the baby boomer generation. The Taranaki Club was very pleased with the numbers - 180 entries.
There are two Stephen Adamson Trophies for the most outstanding rider.
The Men’s trophy went to David Furze and the Women’s went to Katherine Prumm.
