MOTORSPORT NETWORK LTD - Press Release:

Mixed Day at 4-Wheel Debut:

Whakatane’s Tony Rees began his day scheduled to drive the Shapley Motorsport Monaro and ended his day in the team’s VS Commodore at Pukekohe on Saturday May 3.

The former Superbike Champion was teamed with Craig Davies in the 1972 GTS 350. Unfortunately 15 minutes into the race, the Monaro developed an oil pressure problem and had to be retired.
At this point Rees thought his day’s racing was over, however team owner Maurice Shapley made arrangements for Rees to join himself and Glen Cotterill in the team’s VS Commodore.

The Commodore also experience problems, but they were determined to finish, so all hands turned to the Commodore, as the crew replaced a gearbox. Unfortunately this cost them lots of time and then the boys brought it home.
\"It was really great of Maurice to take me into the Commodore, but then I was having so much fun, I didn’t want to come in and change drivers,\" said Rees from his home last night.
\"I would really like to do more car racing, if I could find a drive,\" added Rees.
