Superbike Champion Goes to Four Wheels:
Former Superbike Champion Tony Rees, will debut his four wheel racing career this weekend at the Northern Sports Car Club’s 6-Hour Endurance race being held at Pukekohe Park Raceway.
Rees will be teaming up with former Whakatane lad Craig Davies now living in Nelson, in the Shapley Motorsport Monaro.
The Monaro a 1972 GTS 350, one of only 300 hundred made, is normally raced by Maurice Shapley in the Targa Rally.
\"It will be great to race around Pukekohe on four wheels, after having contested some many motorcycle racing there, in lots of different classes. I have contested Endurance races all over the world on two wheels, so I am really looking forward to Sunday,\" said Rees from his Whakatane base.
Team owner Maurice Shapley will be teaming with Glen Cotterill in the team’s 1997 VS Commodore.
\"The weekend will be a huge effort for the team, we hope to pit both cars together and bring both cars home in one piece,\" said Shapley.
