Ivan Mauger Drops In:

Motorcycling New Zealand held its 85th AGM in Auckland yesterday:

Two new clubs were affiliated. Speedway legend Ivan Mauger was on hand to accept the affiliation of the Taranaki International Motorsport Club Inc. Ivan is one of a number of people who are sparking a Speedway revival in New Zealand. Although domiciled in Queensland, Ivan is spending significant time in New Zealand.

MNZ has two further Life Members:

Inducted was Tim Gibbes of Manawatu. In making the award, MNZ President, Errol Conaghan described Tim as the “Father of Motocross in New Zealand.” He started the Motocross GP back in the early 1960’s Tim hasn’t restricted his activities to Motocross; he has been very prominent in organising Road Racing over the last few years.

The other person elevated to Life Membership was Bob Cooke from the Nelson Club. Bob is in the process of stepping down as Regional Coordinator for Nelson, a role he has performed for over 40 years. Bob has been a competitor, steward and administrator spanning five decades.

Tim and Bob join the other seven Life Members, five of them were there yesterday.
