Ben`s Gutsy Ride:

GP of Holland – Valkensvaard:

Despite the niggling injury of his left wrist Ben Townley rode to a very credible 4th place finish at the GP of Holland, Valkensvaard, Sunday April 13th. The Dutch owned Team Champ-KTM made a clean sweep of the top 4 places in the 125cc race. Ramon, Eggens, De Reuver & Townley.

Ben got away to an 8th place start but settled himself into 4th by the eighth lap of the race. From here on he rode consistent lap times, not varying more than 1 second for the remaining 12 laps of the race. It would appear that he has worked hard on improving his race fitness as fatigue was not as evident on this gruelling sand track, which is the second event of the 12 round series throughout Europe.

This 4th place finish has now elevated Ben to 5th in the world standings. That position however will be short lived as Ben withdraws from racing to undergo surgery for his left wrist deformity & nerve compression next week. It is expected that Townley will stand down for at least 3 Grand Prix races as he sits out the recovery period.

And in the MotocrossGP class Mickael Pichon, Suzuki, prevailed, again from Joel Smets, KTM, [36.2secs difference] and Kenneth Gundersen, Kawasaki.
Stefan Everts, Yamaha, a lowly 8th place.
