Although it Was Expected that the young Kiwi, Ben Townley, would not make his entry to the World MX GP series untill Valkensvaard, 13 April, he has in fact finished in 9th position in the first qualifying Moto at the Gran Premio de España, Bellpuig.
His fellow factory KTM rider, Steve Ramon took provisional pole from Yamaha`s Alessio Chiodi on the four-stroke 250.
In the much awaited battle in the new motocross GP class, debuting KTM`s new 450cc four-stroke, Joel Smets won the provisional pole position, beating the double World Champion Mickael Pichon, Suzuki 250cc, 2T.
