Party Time in Taupiri:

It was party time for the King brothers at Taupiri on Saturday night, fourth and final round of the national supercross championships.

Darryll King was celebrating his final supercross appearance in New Zealand, younger brother Shayne was basking in the glory of wrapping up the national 250cc title and Damien was putting the torch under fellow Honda riders Mason Phillips and Cody Cooper in the 125cc class.

Darryll King took three close wins in the 250cc class to win his swansong night and Shayne King scored 2-2-2 on the night, satisfied he’d done the job he’d set out to do in clinching the No.1 plate.

Although Damien delighted the Taupiri crowd with strong rides in both classes, he had to bow to Te Puke’s Phillips for the 125cc series honours.

Slowed by a shoulder injury, Phillips did just enough to clinch the 125cc title and, if Damien had not skipped round one, the Nelson event clashing with his wedding day, it might well have been a very different story.
