Friday at Levels

Posted: Fri 13 Nov 1998

A good day at levels with excellent weather. In fact the weather looks good for the whole weekend. The track is in excellent condition with Tony Rees & Jason McEwan both looking very fast. Warren Turner was the fastest 250 production rider and Dennis Charlett headed the 125 field on his 1998 RS125. Maarten van Booma of VB Racing was approximately 4th fastest today after putting in about 67 laps.

Levels has had a major upgrade over the past few years and this is the first time that the bikes have been there since 1993. The whole course looks very flash. The track surface is really grippy and there are some fast times predicted for Sunday. Levels is a demanding technical circuit that will tend to sort out the men from the boys. Saturday sees the first F2, F3, & 250 Production races with everything else on Sunday.

On a lighter side, 20 riders turned up at the racers annual Queenstown golf tournament. Darren Gosper\'s apparent win is the subject of a protest (he was also one of the organisers) and the cataclysmic egg fight had Queenstown sold out of eggs. In the ensuing melee Chris Sayle somehow lost the drive shaft from his van and Daniel McLaughlan\'s van wouldn\'t start after some one inserted a golf ball up its exhaust pipe. And you thought racing was stressful...
